Graham-based Barron Petroleum said last week it discovered a field of 13,000 acres in Val Verde County in west Texas estimated to hold 417 bcf or 74.2 million barrels in oil and gas reserves. The family-owned company worked with geoscientist William J. Purves since 2018. Fort Worth Star Telegram said Barron successfully drilled two wells at the site about 35 miles south of Ozona and 6 miles southwest of Massie (Strawn) field that has produced more than 157 bcf. Roger Sahota, president and CEO, said Aug. 20 the discovery was “exactly what 3D had shown on Dr. Purves’ study.” Sahota reportedly is negotiating with Kinder Morgan and Enterprise Products Partners to install pipelines.
Oil & Gas Journal said Sahota Carson 20BU #1 was drilled with a company rig to 12,650 feet. Following stimulation, the well tested at rates up to 5 million cubic feet per day of natural gas.
Albert G. McDaniel of Fort Worth, engineer on the project, told Star Telegram, “These are going to be high-volume, high-rate wells from a major new field that will be developed over the next 5 to 10 years.” Barron has identified 67 high-graded Strawn formation locations.

Congrats on the new field discovery. Dr Bill Purves is a geophysical genius.
