Permian Basin, Texas and U.S. continue to add oil and gas drilling rigs. In its weekly report of active rigs July 23, Baker Hughes said there were 242 rigs in Permian Basin (238 last week, 126 last year), 228 rigs in Texas (222 last week, 103 last year) and 491 rigs in U.S. (484 last week, 251 last year). New Mexico’s rig count was 75 for the seventh straight week (51 a year ago). Enverus said as of July 21 there were 74 operators running rigs in Permian Basin (73 previous week). Pioneer Natural Resources (25 rigs) and Devon Energy (13) are the most active Permian drillers.
Lea County, N.M., is the Permian leader with 46 rigs (45 last week) followed by Midland with 32 rigs (34 last week), Eddy, N.M., and Reeves each with 28 rigs, Martin with 23, Loving with 15, Howard with 14 and Upton with 13.
Haynesville is No. 2 among regions with 48 rigs (49 last week, 32 last year) followed by Eagle Ford with 32 (32 last week, 12 last year) and Marcellus with 28 (28 last week, 25 last year). Louisiana is No. 3 among states with 52 rigs (54 last week, 30 last year) followed by Oklahoma with 30 (29 last week, 10 last year).
