Permian Basin extended its streak to 22 straight weeks of a growing or flat count of active oil and gas drilling rigs as of Nov. 24, according to Baker Hughes. The last time the Permian’s count declined was June 2021. Baker Hughes said on the day before Thanksgiving there were 280 rigs in Permian Basin (up 2 in past week, up 119 in past year), 273 in Texas (up 2 in past week, up 126 in past year), 83 in New Mexico (unchanged in past week, up 25 in past year) and 569 in U.S. (up 6 in past week, up 249 in past year). U.S. oil-directed rigs were up 6 in a week to 467.
Lea County, N.M., remains the Permian leader with 55 rigs followed by Midland (31), Eddy, N.M. (26) and Reeves (23). Haynesville is No. 2 among regions with 46 rigs followed by Eagle Ford (42), Marcellus (30) and Williston (27). And Louisiana is No. 3 among states with 49 rigs followed by Oklahoma (44) and North Dakota (27).
