Growth slows in Permian, Texas rig count; New Mexico adds 2

Growth in rig count in Permian Basin and Texas has slowed – adding only 3 rigs in Permian Basin and falling by 1 rig in Texas in the last 4 weeks. Baker Hughes said as of June 4 there were 232 rigs in Permian (233 last week, 141 last year), 216 in Texas (218 last week, 115 last year) and 456 rigs in U.S. (457 last week, 284 last year). New Mexico marked the largest increase among major producing states with a gain of 2 rigs of 73 (58 last year).

Eddy County, N.M., remained on top in Permian with 39 rigs (up 2 in past week) followed by Lea, N.M., with 33 (down 1), Midland with 32 (up 1), Reeves with 24 (unchanged), Loving and Martin with 17 each, and Howard and Upton with 13 each.

Haynesville remained No. 2 among regions with 48 rigs (47 last week, 31 last year) followed by Eagle Ford with 33 (33 last week, 13 last year), Marcellus with 28 (28 last week, 28 last year) and Williston with 16 (16 last week, 12 last year). Louisiana remained No. 3 among states with 52 rigs (53 last week, 34 last year) followed by Oklahoma with 28 (28 last week, 11 last year) and Pennsylvania with 17 (17 last week, 20 last year).
