A public auction of oil and gas mineral rights in Howard County by U.S. General Services Administration is scheduled to end next week. GSA said disposition of surplus federal property of 133.6 total net mineral acres “underscores GSA’s commitment to optimizing the federal footprint and ensuring the efficient stewardship of taxpayer dollars.” The auction started Sept. 15 and is scheduled to end “on or after Dec. 26.”
The land surface within the city limits of Big Spring is held by a combination of public and private owners. The auction pertains exclusively to subsurface mineral rights.
Michael Rigas, GSA acting administrator, said, “By strategically leveraging the value of the government’s portfolio, we are ensuring responsible use of federal resources and contributing to economic growth.”
