Halliburton Labs adds company to reuse produced water, extract minerals

February 25, 2025 by PBOG

Houston-based Halliburton Labs said it recently added five companies to its collaborative system to help advance commercialization with support from Halliburton’s practitioners and business network. The five include Espiku, a Bend, Oregon-based company that develops solutions to help operators reuse produced water and extract minerals from brines and industrial-produced water. Espiku is scouting locations in Permian Basin for a pilot test of its units. Saskia van Meer, co-founder, told Midland Reporter Telegram, “This is exciting because we can extract a mineral-rich stream of lithium, manganese or other highly prized critical minerals,”
The company’s low-pressure thermal cycles and modular design allow the technology to recycle and reuse produced water at the wellhead. “Midland is where we’ve had our sights set for a long time,” van Meer added. “The water issue is dire.”
Tyler Manley, director of business development at Espiku, said Dec. 18, “Espiku’s innovations provide a critical pathway to a clean energy future to solve urgent water management issues for our customers… We are excited to announce a strategic collaboration with Halliburton Labs that will expand our access to customer insights and operational expertise and accelerate our progress toward deployment at scale.”
