Natural gas-rich Haynesville in east Texas and north Louisiana has overtaken Eagle Ford in south Texas as the second most popular destination for drilling rig operators in U.S. Haynesville surpassed Eagle Ford in May and now has 32 operating rigs to 11 for Eagle Ford as of July 17, according to Baker Hughes. And Haynesville also has surpassed Eagle Ford in drilling permits. For the week of July 8-14, there were 5 permits filed in Haynesville and 0 in Eagle Ford with Railroad Commission of Texas. Houston-based Rockcliff Energy and Sabine Oil & Gas filed 5 permits for gas wells in Haynesville.
For the week of July 8-14, according to Houston Chronicle, Midland’s Diamondback Energy and Double Eagle Development filed 8 permits each in Texas with 6 permits each by Sunoco, Pioneer Natural Resources and Midland’s Concho Resources to lead the state’s operators.
Oil major Chevron filed 4 permits for horizontal wells in Delaware Basin in Reeves County targeting Wolfbone at a depth of 12,000 feet.
