Houston-based pipeline giant Kinder Morgan said it obtained rights to the final pieces of land needed to route Permian Highway pipeline through the Texas hill country, according to a report this week in Houston Chronicle. The 430-mile project is intended to transport 2 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day from Permian Basin to the Katy hub near Houston. But plans to build the $2 billion pipeline still face opposition from environmentalists, landowners, cities, counties and groundwater conservation districts. Opponents reportedly plan to file at least two endangered species lawsuits to stop the project.
Lawrence Rayburn says
Why not refine gas products here in west Texas in the Delaware basin, then pipeline them to Gulf of Mexico
loading terminals, bypassing gulf coast refineries? Cheaper to refine products out here where refineries
are not run by unionized employees. Put the money into the local economy where the natural gas is
produced, not 600 miles away to benefit those in Houston and surrounding areas.
