Houston-based LandBridge Co. said last week it contracted with NRG Energy on a potential data center in Reeves County in Delaware Basin. The site could potentially house a 1,100-megawatt, grid-connected natural gas power generation facility, which NRG would construct “if an appropriate power purchase agreement for a data center is secured.” LandBridge said in-service date could be as early as year-end 2029.
LandBridge’s strategically located surface acreage, adjacent to the Waha gas market hub, provides direct access to low-cost natural gas and transmission infrastructure to support regional development. The company owns about 277,000 surface acres in Texas and New Mexico primarily in Delaware Basin.
Jason Long, CEO of LandBridge, said Sept. 23, “NRG’s selection of this site for potential development of critical power generation supported by a data center project marks an exciting step for both LandBridge and the entire Delaware Basin.” Robert J. Gaudette, executive vice president of NRG, added, “Once anchored by a long-term customer, the site has the potential to foster innovation and support data center growth, economic resilience and grid stability in the region.”
