A joint venture of Marathon Petroleum subsidiary MPLX and three other companies said June 5 it will proceed with design and construction of Whistler pipeline to transport natural gas from Permian Basin to Texas Gulf Coast. Other partners are WhiteWater Midstream of Austin, Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners and West Texas Gas of Midland. Whistler will transport two billion cubic feet of natural gas per day through 42-inch pipeline for about 450 miles from Waha hub in Permian Basin to NextEra’s Agua Dulce hub in south Texas. It is expected to be in service 2021Q3. Supply will be sourced from multiple upstream connections in Delaware and Midland basins.
MPLX president Michael Hennigan said, “Whistler is expected to provide reliable residue gas transportation out of the Permian Basin, which is vital to our growing gas processing position and producers in the region.”
