Dallas-based Matador Resources said Monday it received six drilling permits from U.S. Bureau of Land Management for its western Antelope Ridge asset area in Lea County. Drilling operations have started on Matador’s Rodney Robinson tract of 1,200 gross and net acres, one of the tracts the company acquired in BLM’s New Mexico lease sale in September 2018. Matador anticipates drilling with two of its six rigs in the Delaware Basin from two 3-well pads. The wells (each with a 2-mile lateral) are scheduled to be completed and turned to sales late in 2020Q1.
Joseph Wm. Foran, chairman and CEO, said, “We look forward to developing this acreage over the next several years in cooperation with the various regulatory bodies in New Mexico.”
Matador awaits approval from BLM for permits to drill eight wells on 2,800 gross and net acres in its Stateline area also acquired in September. Matador hopes to start sales from the Stateline wells in 2020Q3 as expansion is completed of a cryogenic gas processing plant in Eddy County owned 51 percent by Matador and operated by San Mateo Midstream.
