EnLink Midstream, a stakeholder in Matterhorn Express pipeline, said the natural gas pipeline is expected to begin service this month to increase takeaway capacity in the Permian Basin. Pipeline capacity is 2.5 billion cubic feet per day from Permian Basin to Katy. Matterhorn is a joint venture of EnLink, Whitewater, Devon Energy and MPLX.
U.S. Energy Information Administration said last week, “Natural gas production from the Permian Basin – primarily associated gas from growing oil production operations – has more than doubled since 2018, reducing regional spot natural gas prices and prompting greater demand for new pipeline takeaway capacity to transport natural gas to more viable markets.”
Three other Permian Basin pipeline projects – Apex, Blackcomb and Saguaro Connector – with combined capacity of 7.3 billion cfd have been approved and are in various stages of development.
