BBT, formerly Big Bend Telephone, has announced the opening of the first Multi-Tenant Colocation Data Center facility in Midland, Texas. The Data Center is located approximately 10 miles west of downtown Midland, adjacent to Midland International Space Port. The facility will be a major network access point for the entire Permian Basin and surrounding region. The carrier-neutral facility will offer a multitude of connectivity options, as well as half-rack and full rack pricing as well as private cages.
BBT, headquartered in Alpine, Texas, has been a technology and communications leader in West Texas since its founding in 1960. The opening of the new Colocation facility in Midland continues its stated mission of keeping West Texas connected to the region and to the world. This Data Center enables BBT to accelerate business performance for more companies across the region by providing a robust and reliable facility for IT infrastructure that includes access to a wide selection of connectivity options across multiple carriers including BBT’s expansive fiber and broadband network.
According to a local source, the project represents something new and needed for the community, as prior to this, most of the data storage by oil companies was going to DFW, Houston, or out of state locations. The center thus will take some congestion off the area’s long haul fiber, but also is adding a new high-tech dynamic to the economy here in the Permian.
