Houston-based Moda Midstream said this week it activated the final 495,000-barrel storage tank in its 10 million-barrel crude oil expansions at Moda Ingleside Energy Center and Moda Taft terminal. The completion of these expansions brings total capacity at MIEC and Taft to about 12 million barrels. President and CEO Bo McCall called the addition of 10 million barrels of storage in 18 months “a major accomplishment.” MIEC is directly connected to about 2.5 million barrels per day of crude supply from Permian Basin and Eagle Ford from four long-haul pipelines, including Gray Oak and EPIC.
Moda also said Tuesday it has started construction on another expansion for an additional 3.5 million barrels of crude oil storage to be activated later this year – giving it 15.5 million barrels of storage. Moda also has permits to construct additional storage at MIEC and Taft.
Argus Media and Houston Chronicle said last week Dallas-based Energy Transfer is asking Railroad Commission of Texas for permission to create an additional two million barrels of storage by changing operation of two pipelines “to free up space on its conduits to store more crude.”
