Permian Basin accounted for most of the growth in production of associated natural gas in the U.S. in 2024, according to U.S. Energy Information Administration. Production of associated natural gas in Permian Basin increased in 2024 by 8 percent to 12.5 Bcfd and accounted for 47 percent of Permian’s total natural gas production. U.S. production of associated natural gas increased by 6 percent to 18.5 Bcfd in 2024.
EIA said Nov. 21 that production of associated natural gas comes primarily from five major regions – Permian, Bakken, Eagle Ford, Anadarko and Niobrara. These regions produced 18.2 Bcfd in associated natural gas in 2024 – an increase of 1.0 Bcfd from 2023. Associated natural gas accounted for 37 percent of total natural gas production from these regions in 2023 and 2024.
