RISING ABOVE THE DOWNFALL OF OIL
Karmic Energy, innovators of the digital oilfield and environmentally friendly products, have worked busily over the past several months to position the company for future growth.
Taking steps to ensure a strong corporate base, the company first began making internal changes. As a team—all the way from the top executives down to the shop personnel—each employee received additional training in their respective fields and participated in company-wide meetings to establish goals while streamlining their fundamental processes.
Next, the company focused on what it does best: innovation. Karmic Energy is committed to moving forward with their new product developments, planting their technological seeds firmly in the ground to ensure the company is poised for advancement as soon as the market begins to surge. A few of these products developments include:
- Karmic Energy Automated Tank & Water Monitoring System—The digitally advanced technology was originally introduced in 4Q14. However, the company has partnered with top leaders in Texas to upgrade the system providing an enhanced monitoring and state reporting application.
- Karmic Energy H2O Water Station—Located in Pyote, Texas, the Karmic Energy Water Station features a state-of-the-art facility operated with solar power and will produce over 63,000 barrels of water per day, just to start. The water station currently has over four water wells, with another well reaching a depth of 4,500 feet to be drilled soon. Permits for potable water have been filed in Texas and negotiations for water sales are underway.
- Karmic Energy Engine Fire Suppression System—The system easily transforms hydraulic fracturing equipment into a fire truck. It is equipped with 100 feet of fire hose, allowing adjacent trucks to assist in suppressing fires—essentially turning them into 500-gallon foam fire engines. The foam barrier deployed by the adjacent trucks stops a fire from spreading laterally, saving lives and loss of equipment due to location fires.
- Karmic Energy Hydrography “K-Boat”—The K-Boat is a remote-controlled, robotic survey vessel that enables hydrographic surveying to take place quickly and accurately, while safely collecting and analyzing shallow inland bathymetry data. Survey technicians are able to stay safe and dry on shore while the K-Boat travels through a water source collecting geo-referenced depth information from an onboard shallow water single beam survey system.
Moving forward, the company plans to stay ahead of the curve by continuing its focus on technology and offering clients superior customer service, therefore safeguarding their position as leaders in the oil and gas industry.
Karmic Energy, LLC, a division of Precision Frac—ranked number four by Forbes Magazine’s “America’s Most Promising Companies of 2015,” is an initiative aimed at delivering innovative products, fresh water, and superior services enabling the oil and gas industry to take advantage of breakthrough technology that brings balance between the energy resource development America needs to be secure and prosperous and the imperative to protect the environment and people that surround oil and gas operations. Halliburton Introduces SpectrumSM Real-Time Coiled Tubing Services
Halliburton’s Production Solutions business line, on Mar. 22, introduced Spectrum Real-Time Coiled Tubing Services. This suite of services is designed to deliver more accurate, more complete downhole measurements, and exceptional reliability—leading to a higher return on investment for completion and intervention operations.
Spectrum Real-Time Coiled Tubing Services comprises two complementary offerings: Spectrum Diagnostic Services and Spectrum Intervention Services. These services integrate Halliburton’s coiled tubing with down-hole measurement tools, fiber optic sensing, and telemetry, to deliver complete, accurate, real-time data. Operators are better able to minimize uncertainty, assess reservoir performance, and monitor wellbore conditions, helping them significantly improve well intervention operations and production.
Spectrum Diagnostic Services delivers fiber-optic distributed sensing through coiled tubing to assess well productivity and completions effectiveness by identifying fracture initiation points across the wellbore and profiling production. An alternative to traditional production logs, Spectrum Diagnostic Services can monitor a time series of data across the entire wellbore as opposed to single snapshots in time. Applications for Spectrum Diagnostic Services include determining stimulation cluster efficiency, fracture mapping, production profiling, leak detection, and assessment of wellbore integrity.
“Spectrum Diagnostic Services is one of the first technologies to provide this detailed analysis on a per stage basis for the entire length of the wellbore,” said Ahmed El Demerdash, vice president of Halliburton’s Production Solutions business line.
Spectrum Intervention Services delivers real-time monitoring from a bottom-hole assembly, with modular sensors for measuring depth correlation with casing collar locator and gamma ray, internal and external pressure and temperature, tool inclination, torque, tension, and compression. Compared to standard operations where only surface parameters are available, downhole insight from Spectrum Intervention Services helps reduce operational risk and increase precision to deliver better wells. These services have multiple applications, including milling, wellbore cleanouts, fishing, perforating, stimulation, and completion equipment manipulation.
“In this economic environment, customers are evaluating the effectiveness of completion methods and looking to minimize the number of trips downhole,” El Demerdash said. “They also want to identify areas of greatest production contribution to determine how best to extend the life of the well. Spectrum Real-Time Coil Tubing Services enables customers to improve connectivity to the reservoir and reduce uncertainty. These services are designed for customers seeking to increase returns on every well.”

Free-Standing Fracturing Rig Solves Common Problems
The current generation of hydraulic fracturing rigs pose two common problems: excessive vibration and mobility. Guanghan, China-based Sichuan BOMCO Special Vehicle Manufacturing Co has overcome these issues with a free-standing, 3,000 hhp skid configuration that relies on powerful, state-of-the-art Twin Disc components. The unit will be on display at the China International Petroleum & Petrochemical Technology and Equipment Exhibition (CIPPE) in Beijing, March 29–31, booth E1300.
The groundbreaking rig is powered by either a CAT 3516 or MTU 16V4000 engine, paired with a high-performance Twin Disc TA90-8703 coaxial, nine-speed Power-Shift transmission. Coupled to Twin Disc’s 8FLW-2306-0 Torque Converter, the unit boasts an impressive power rating of 2,460 kW/3,300 hp at 1,900 rpm.
With the use of an engine rated at 3,300 hp, the rig provides a 10 percent increase in power over anything that has been built before it. This translates into greater productivity and more profit.
Complete command over this power is crucial. Sichuan BOMCO chose Twin Disc’s innovative TDEC-500 electronic control system. It allows the transmission to meet the desired demands for the application efficiently and consistently.
The power plant runs a 3,500 bhp (2,609 kW) Bomco QPI3500 pump. The five-cylinder unit has a 7.091:1 gear ratio and the ability to achieve a maximum working pressure of 145 Mpa.
The use of Twin Disc’s heavy duty TA90-8703 transmission system, with field-proven durability and long life between overhauls, significantly reduces maintenance downtime and costs. Simple and safe to operate, the configuration is built for a wide range of fracturing and acidizing operations.
The cutting-edge TDEC-500 control system drastically reduces harmful torque spikes in the system caused by torsional vibrations and shock loads. It does this through an intelligent control of the torque converter’s lockup clutch. This patent pending technology extends the service life of the equipment and eliminates the need for an expensive but less effective flexible coupling. It also addresses the health and safety concerns of both workers, and nearby residents.
Sichuan BOMCO’s rig increases the mobility of the fracturing system. Narrow roads and low bridges present significant challenges to both trailer and chassis-mounted configurations. With an engine on one skid and the other components on a second, one or two trucks are able to bring the fracturing rig to the most remote drill site. Combined, the unit is 43′ L x 7.8′ W x 9′ H and weighs 82,353 lbs.
For nearly 100 years, global leader Twin Disc has made tough jobs easier. The company manufactures Power-Shift transmissions, PTOs, gearboxes, torque converters, mechanical, hydraulic and modulating clutches, electronic controls, and other severe duty products. Designed for use in the most demanding environments, its products are known for their reliability and long service life.
