Counts of active oil and gas drilling rigs in Permian Basin, Texas, New Mexico and U.S. all declined for the third consecutive week, according to the Nov. 8 report from Baker Hughes. And it was the fifth straight week of declining rig count in New Mexico, which now has 104 rigs (108 last week, 106 last year). There were 412 rigs in Permian Basin (416 previous week, 492 previous year), 413 rigs in Texas (416 previous week, 532 previous year) and 817 rigs in U.S. (822 previous week, 1,081 previous year). New Mexico and Texas led last week’s declines. The count of U.S. oil-directed rigs fell to 684 (691 previous week, 886 previous year).
Rig counts in other leading states included Louisiana with 56 and North Dakota and Oklahoma each with 51. Other leading regions included Eagle Ford with 60, Williston with 52, Haynesville with 51 and Marcellus with 40.
