The Energy Workforce and Technology Council released on July 7 its June 2026 jobs report, showing that the energy services workforce remained relatively stable through the first half of 2026, despite a modest decline in June, even as the broader U.S. labor market slowed. Energy services employment totaled 627,259 jobs in June, a decrease of 4,043 positions from May, according to preliminary data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and Energy Workforce analysis. Despite the monthly decline, employment has held within a relatively narrow range during the first six months of 2026. Since January, workforce levels have fluctuated by just over 6,200 jobs, reflecting the disciplined approach energy services companies continue to take toward hiring and workforce management.
The June report also mirrored broader national employment trends. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. employers added 57,000 jobs in June, well below expectations, as hiring slowed across the broader economy. “While month-to-month employment levels continue to fluctuate, the overall trend in the first half of this year has been one of stability,” said Energy Workforce President Molly Determan. “The industry’s focus remains on maintaining a skilled workforce while operating efficiently and preparing for future opportunities. As market conditions evolve, companies are well-positioned to respond while continuing to support reliable American energy production.”
