Corpus Christi’s recent ship channel improvement project deepened the channel to 54 feet from 47 feet and widened it to 530 feet in most places. That enables more efficient transport of crude oil, LNG and other commodities, including ship traffic by very large crude carriers. And it attracted three major pipelines from Permian Basin so that the Port of Corpus Christi became the largest energy exporter in the U.S. and the third largest in the world. Additional pipelines are in development.
Last year port customers shipped 130.5 million tons of crude oil through the channel. In first half of 2025, crude oil shipments were 65.2 million tons – up 3.8 percent from last year. LNG exports reached 8.5 million tons in first half of 2025 – up 10.8 percent over last year. Last month Enbridge exported more than 1 million b/d of oil from its terminal.
