About 40 oil and gas companies and seven organizations, including Permian Basin Petroleum Association, said March 31 they formed a coalition to address flaring and methane emissions. The companies in Texas Methane and Flaring Coalition are responsible for about 80 percent of the state’s oil production. The coalition will work to improve data quality, explain why and when flaring is necessary, identify and recommend best practices to minimize flaring and emissions, and evaluate and summarize existing studies.
The other groups are Panhandle Producers and Royalty Owners, South Texas Energy and Economic Roundtable, Texas Alliance of Energy Producers, Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners, Texas Oil and Gas, and Texas Pipeline.
