Permian Basin, Texas, New Mexico and U.S. each added rigs in the past week, according to the weekly report of active oil and gas drilling rigs for March 6 from Baker Hughes. Permian added 4 rigs for a new total of 415 (411 week ago, 465 year ago, 405 to start 2020), and Texas added 3 to reach 404 (401 week ago, 502 year ago, 404 to start 2020). New Mexico added a rig (115 week ago, 105 year ago, 105 to start 2020). There were 793 active rigs in U.S. as of March 6 (790 week ago, 1,027 year ago, 805 to start 2020). It was the fourth straight week for Permian Basin to add rigs. Permian, Texas and New Mexico are at or above rig counts to start the year.
Eddy and Lea counties in New Mexico each has 57 rigs to lead Permian Basin followed by Midland (48), Martin (40), Reeves (39), Loving (33), Howard (31) and Ward (21).
Rig counts in other leading states include Louisiana (52), North Dakota (51) and Oklahoma (46). Rig counts in other leading regions include Eagle Ford (68), Williston (52), Haynesville (43) and Marcellus (37).
