Permian Basin added rigs for the third straight week, according to the latest weekly report of rig counts from Baker Hughes. As of Feb. 9, there were 313 rigs in Permian Basin (up 2 in past week, down 39 in past year), 301 in Texas (down 2 in past week, down 69 in past year), 101 in New Mexico (up 3 in past week, down 8 in past year), and 623 in U.S. (up 4 in past week, down 138 in past year).
Louisiana added 3 rigs in past week to rank third among states with 45 (66 year ago) followed by Oklahoma (down 1 to 41) and North Dakota (unchanged with 32). Among regions, Eagle Ford is runner-up with 52 rigs (unchanged in past week) followed by Haynesville with 42 (up 2), Williston with 34 (unchanged) and Marcellus with 31 (up 2).
New Mexico counties of Eddy (down 1 to 54) and Lea (up 4 to 44) continue to lead Permian Basin followed by Martin with 37 (unchanged), Reeves with 28 (down 2) and Loving with 24 (up 1) in the top five. Others in top 10 are Midland with 22, Upton with 17, Ward with 14, Reagan with 13 and Howard with 11 (each unchanged from last week).
