Permian Basin’s streak of weeks without an increase in count of active drilling rigs has reached a dozen. Baker Hughes said in its weekly report of July 12 that Permian reported 305 rigs for the third consecutive week (down 32 from 337 a year ago). Permian last reported an increase April 19 (up 2 to 318).
Top five counties in Permian Basin remain unchanged in rig counts as of July 12. There are 52 rigs in Eddy, N.M., 51 in Lea, N.M., 31 in Martin, 24 in Reeves and 22 in Loving. Other basin leaders include Midland with 18 (down 1 in past week), Reagan and Upton with 15 each, Howard with 12 and Glasscock with 10.
After a week of gains, Texas and U.S. reported additional declines. Texas was down 2 to 276 rigs (down 53 from 329 a year ago), and U.S. declined 1 to 584 (down 91 from 675 a year ago). New Mexico was unchanged with 107 for the third straight week (down 6 from 113 a year ago).
Louisiana is No. 3 among states with 44 (up 1 in past week, down 7 in past year) and Oklahoma and North Dakota have 34 rigs each – both unchanged. Eagle Ford in south Texas remains No. 2 among regions with 48 rigs (down 1 in past week, down 11 in past year) followed by Haynesville with 36, Williston with 35 and Marcellus with 25.
