Permian Basin led major producing regions, and Texas led states in adding drilling rigs in the past week, according to the weekly report of Aug. 8 from Baker Hughes. Permian has 263 rigs after adding 3 in past week and 7 in past year, and Texas has 275 after adding 2 in past week and 32 in past year (up 13.17 percent from 243). It was the second week of gains for both after they reported declines July 24.
U.S. reported its second straight week of 588 rigs (up 49 or 9.09 percent from 539 a year ago), and New Mexico reported 96 rigs for fourth straight week (up 1 in past year).
Rig counts in Haynesville (56 rigs) and Eagle Ford (49) also were unchanged, followed by Williston with 27 and Marcellus with 24 (down 1). Among states, Oklahoma (50) and Louisiana (38) also were unchanged followed by North Dakota with 24.
U.S. reported 3 additional oil-directed rigs in the past week (up 43 or 10.46 percent in past year).
