Texas led major producing states in additional oil and gas drilling rigs for the third straight week, according to the weekly report of May 8 by Baker Hughes. Texas now has 240 rigs after adding 2 in the previous week. That’s down 33 or 12.09 percent from 273 rigs a year ago but up from 232 to start the year.
Also as of May 8, there were 242 rigs in Permian Basin (up 1 in previous week, down 43 or 15.09 percent from 285 a year ago), 95 in New Mexico (unchanged in previous week, down 1 from a year ago) and 548 in U.S. (up 1 in past week, down 30 or 5.19 percent from 578 a year ago).
Haynesville (58 rigs) and Eagle Ford (43) were both unchanged in past week followed by Williston (28) and Marcellus (25). Oklahoma is third among states with 44 rigs (up 1 in previous week) followed by Louisiana with 42 (down 2) and North Dakota with 26 (unchanged).
