Baker Hughes reported additional rigs in Permian Basin and U.S. for the first time in several weeks. In its weekly report of Dec. 6, the Houston-based services firm said there were 304 rigs in Permian Basin (first gain since Sept. 20) after 10 weeks of flat or reduced counts and 589 rigs in U.S. (first gain since Oct. 11) after 7 weeks of flat or reduced counts. Permian’s count was up 1 from the previous week and down 9 from a year ago. The U.S. count was up 7 from the previous week and down 37 from a year ago. Also, there were 286 rigs in Texas (up 5 in past week, down 22 in past year) and 102 in New Mexico (unchanged in past week and past year).
Eagle Ford in south Texas remains No. 2 among regions with 48 rigs (48 last week, 52 year ago) followed by Williston with 36 (35 week ago, 33 year ago), Haynesville with 30 (30 week ago, 42 year ago) and Marcellus with 26 (25 week ago, 29 year ago). No. 3 among states is Oklahoma with 43 (44 week ago, 38 year ago) followed by North Dakota with 35 (34 week ago, 32 year ago) and Louisiana with 30 (30 week ago, 44 year ago).
There was no new activity in seven of Permian’s top nine counties in the past week. Eddy (52) and Lea (47) in New Mexico continued to lead in this region followed by Midland with 30, Reeves with 29, Martin with 27 (down 1) and Loving with 21. Also, there were 13 rigs in Upton (up 1), 12 in Reagan and 10 in Ward.
