Organizers of the third annual Permian Basin Water in Energy conference next week in Midland said the conference will examine uses for produced water other than recycling it to other wells or disposing of it underground. Michael Hightower of the New Mexico Produced Water Research Consortium told the Midland Reporter Telegram the group is “looking at uses for produced water in agriculture, rangeland reclamation, industrial applications and road construction. Other uses being looked at include water use on golf courses and greenscapes and aquifer storage… There is far more produced water than can be used in hydraulic fracturing and completions.” The conference is scheduled Feb. 19-21.
