Permian leads oil production growth; U.S. gas production tops 80 billion cfd

May 30, 2019 by Bailey LeRoux

Two-thirds of growth in U.S. oil production next month is forecast to come from the Permian Basin.  In its latest Drilling Productivity Report, U.S. Energy Information Administration said oil production in the nation’s seven major regions is expected to grow from 8.412 million barrels per day in May to 8.495 million b/d in June.  Much of the increase of 83,000 b/d will come from Permian Basin, which is expected to grow by 56,000 b/d from 4.117 million b/d to 4.173 million b/d.

Appalachia, Haynesville and Permian lead June’s growth figures for production of natural gas.  U.S. natural gas production in June is forecast to top 80 billion cubic feet per day (80.663 billion) after 79.720 billion in May for an increase of 943 million cfd.  Appalachia will grow by 366 million cfd to 32.108 billion (39 percent of growth), Haynesville will grow by 287 million cfd to 11.358 million (30 percent) and Permian will grow by 241 million cfd to 14.410 million (26 percent).

Permian Basin was one of only two regions that added DUC wells (drilled but uncompleted) in April as the nation’s count declined by 43 to 8,390 DUC wells.  Permian Basin added 47 DUC wells in April for a new total of 3,964.
