June 11, 2024 by PBOG

Rig counts in Permian Basin, Texas and New Mexico remained unchanged in the past week while the U.S. count declined by 6.  Baker Hughes said as of June 7 there were 310 rigs in Permian Basin (346 a year ago), 287 in Texas (347 a year ago) and 107 in New Mexico (108 a year ago).  U.S. reported 594 rigs (down from 600 the previous week and 695 a year ago).  U.S. count is below 600 rigs for first time since January 2022.

New Mexico counties Eddy (53) and Lea (50) lead the Permian Basin – both unchanged this week – followed by Martin with 32 (down 1) and Loving and Reeves with 23 each.  Other Permian leaders include Midland with 20, Reagan with 18, Upton with 14, and Howard and Ward each with 10.

Louisiana is No. 3 among states with 41 (down 1) followed by Oklahoma with 38 (down 4) and North Dakota with 32 (unchanged).  Eagle Ford in south Texas is No. 2 among regions with 51 rigs (unchanged) followed by Haynesville with 36 (unchanged), Williston with 34 (unchanged) and Marcellus with 25 (down 2).
