Modest growth in rig count resumed in Permian Basin last week, according to Baker Hughes, after it was unchanged overall the previous four weeks at 349. As of July 29, there were 351 rigs in Permian (243 year ago), 371 in Texas (365 week ago, 230 year ago), 110 in New Mexico (109 week ago, 74 year ago) and 767 in U.S. (758 week ago, 488 year ago). Texas’ gain of 6 led major producing states.
Louisiana is No. 3 among states with 65 rigs (up 1 in previous week) followed closely by Oklahoma with 64 (up 1) and North Dakota with 36 (unchanged). Eagle Ford in south Texas is No. 2 among regions with 72 rigs (up 2 in previous week) followed by Haynesville with 69 (up 1) and Marcellus and Williston with 38 each.
Lea County, N.M., unchanged last week with 58 rigs, is Permian leader followed by Lea, N.M., with 49 (up 1), Midland with 40 (up 1), Martin with 28 (down 1), Reeves also with 28 (up 1), Loving with 27 (unchanged), Howard with 23 (down 1), Upton with 13, Ward with 12, and Andrews and Glasscock each with 10.
