Baker Hughes, in its weekly report of Jan. 23, said Permian Basin had 244 active drilling rigs for the third straight week. That’s down 54 or 18.12 percent from 298 a year ago.
Texas, one of only three major producing states to add rigs last week, reported one additional rig to halt a streak of four straight weeks of declining rig counts. Texas has 229 rigs (down 48 or 17.33 percent from 277 a year ago). Also, as of Jan. 23, there were 102 rigs in New Mexico (also 102 last week and 102 a year ago) and 544 rigs in U.S. (up 1 in past week, down 32 or 0.56 percent from 576 a year ago). In U.S., there was one additional oil rig in the past week.
Haynesville in east Texas and Louisiana is No. 2 among regions with 42 rigs followed by Eagle Ford in south Texas with 40, Williston with 28 and Marcellus with 24 – all unchanged in past week. Among states, Oklahoma has 43 rigs followed by Louisiana with 37 (down 2 in past week) and North Dakota with 26 in top five.
