Baker Hughes’ count of active oil and gas drilling rigs in Permian Basin continues to increase. As of April 29, there were 335 rigs in Permian Basin (up 1 in past week, up 111 in past year), 345 in Texas (down 1 in past week, up 133 in past year), 97 rigs in New Mexico (up 2 in past week, up 27 in past year) and 698 rigs in U.S. (up 3 in past week, up 258 in past year). New Mexico and Louisiana were the only major producing states that increased rig count last week. Permian’s count has increased every month since July 2020 (21 consecutive months).
Louisiana remains No. 3 among states with 58 rigs followed by Oklahoma with 51 and North Dakota with 35. Haynesville remains No. 2 among regions with 67 rigs followed by Eagle Ford with 61 and Marcellus and Williston with 37 each.
Lea County, N.M., remains the Permian leader with 50 rigs followed by Eddy, N.M., with 42, Midland with 40, Martin with 33, Reeves with 31, Loving with 29, Howard with 21 and Upton with 17.
