The count of active drilling rigs in Permian Basin ended 10 weeks of decline, but the U.S. count fell for the 11th consecutive week. Baker Hughes said as of July 11 there were 265 rigs in Permian Basin (unchanged in the past week, down 40 rigs or 13 percent from 305 a year ago) and 537 rigs in U.S. (down 2 in the past week, down 47 or 8 percent from 584 in the past year).
In Permian Basin, rig count in Midland County continues to fall. Eddy (down 1 to 44) and Lea (up 1 to 42) in New Mexico lead the basin followed by Reeves with 28, Martin with 24, Loving with 21 (down 2), Midland with 17 (down 3), Upton with 16 (down 1) and Reagan with 12 (up 2).
Also, there were 255 rigs in Texas (down 1 in past week, down 21 in past year) and 90 in New Mexico (unchanged in past week, down 17 in past year).
Oklahoma is No. 3 among states with 42 rigs (down 1 in past week, up 8 in past year) ahead of Louisiana with 31 (unchanged in past week, down 13 in past year) and North Dakota with 29 (unchanged in past week, down 5 in past year). Eagle Ford in south Texas remains No. 2 among regions with 41 rigs (unchanged in past week, down 7 in past year) followed by Haynesville with 38 (up 1 in past week, up 2 in past year), Williston with 31 (unchanged in past week, down 4 in past year) and Marcellus with 23 (unchanged in past week, down 2 in past year).
