Baker Hughes’ counts of active drilling rigs continue to increase in U.S., Texas and Permian Basin. The weekly report of Aug. 14 shows 593 wells in U.S. (up 5 in the past week, up 54 or 10.02 percent in past year), 277 in Texas (up 2 in past week, up 35 or 14.46 percent in past year) and 266 in Permian Basin (up 2 in past week, up 10 or 3.92 percent in past year). The U.S. count is its highest in 17 months since March 2025. The Permian and Texas counts are up for the third straight week.
New Mexico reported 99 rigs – up 3 in the past week and up 4 in the past year.
Oklahoma also reported an additional rig. It’s third among states with 51 – up 1 in past week, up 8 in past year. Louisiana has 38 rigs, and North Dakota has 24 – both unchanged in past week. Among regions, Haynesville is runner-up with 59 (up 3) followed by Eagle Ford with 49 (unchanged), Williston with 27 and Marcellus with 24. In U.S. in the past week, there was 1 additional oil-directed rig (455) and 4 additional gas-directed rigs (128).
