Permian Basin again provided only one of the top 10 private oil and gas producers in lower 48, according to Enverus Intelligence Research. In a report released last week, Enverus said the top five in the 2025 list remained the same as the previous year. Rockies operator Continental Resources again is first followed by Mewbourne Oil from Permian Basin, Aethon Energy from Gulf Coast, Ascent Resources from Eastern U.S. and Hilcorp from Rockies. Gulf Coast region had four of the top 10.
In 2025 Continental produced 706,974 boed with 5,274 wells and 14 active rigs, and Mewbourne was runner-up with 575,339 boed, 4,002 wells and 21 active rigs.
Nine other Permian producers ranked in Enverus’ top 50. They were Surge Operating (27), BTA Oil Producers (28), Birch Operations (32), Double Eagle (34), Fasken Oil and Ranch (37), Blackbeard Operating (41), Firebird Energy II (46), VTX Energy Operating (47) and Discovery Natural Resources (50).
Drew Depoe, senior analyst, said July 1, “Private operators drive a significant share of U.S. upstream activity, yet much of it stays off the radar. This year’s top 100 list gives investors and operators a clearer read on the current private landscape.”
