Pioneer leads Permian drillers with 26 rigs

Rig counts in the top five U.S. basins were unchanged in the past week, according to the weekly report of July 9 from Baker Hughes. Permian Basin has 237 rigs (125 a year ago), Haynesville has 49 (33 a year ago), Eagle Ford has 32 (9 a year ago), Marcellus has 28 (27 a year ago), and Williston has 18 (10 a year ago). Enverus said July 8 that Pioneer Natural Resources is most active driller currently in Permian Basin with 26 rigs followed by Mewbourne Oil with 14, Devon with 13 and ConocoPhillips with 12.

Also as of July 9, Baker Hughes said Texas has 224 rigs (222 last week, 107 last year), New Mexico has 75 rigs (75 last week, 49 last year), Louisiana has 53 rigs (52 last week, 31 last year), and North Dakota and Pennsylvania each has 18 rigs. There are 479 rigs in U.S. (475 last week, 258 last year; 378 oil-directed).

The count of 47 rigs in Lea County, N.M., was unchanged in past week for the Permian leader. Others include Midland with 38 (up 1 in past week), Eddy, N.M., unchanged with 27, Reeves down 2 to 26, Loving (up 2) and Martin each with 18, and Howard and Upton each with 13.
