Baker Hughes said Permian Basin extended its streak of no declining rig counts to 24 weeks as of Dec. 10. Permian Basin added 3 rigs in the previous week for a new total of 286 (168 a year ago). The basin last had a declining rig count June 25. Also, there are 272 rigs in Texas (up 1 in past week, up 117 in past year), 90 in New Mexico (up 2 in past week, up 30 in past year) and 576 in U.S. (up 7 in past week, up 238 in past year).
Enverus said as of Dec. 8 Pioneer Natural Resources continues to lead U.S. active operators with 26 rigs. Other U.S. leaders include EOG Resources with 25 rigs, Continental Resources with 22, Devon Energy, Mewbourne Oil and Occidental Petroleum with 17 each, and ConocoPhillips with 16.
Lea County, N.M., is the Permian leader with 60 rigs followed by Midland with 29, Eddy, N.M., with 28 and Reeves with 22.
Haynesville remains No. 2 among regions with 46 rigs (unchanged in past week) followed closely by Eagle Ford in south Texas with 44 (up 2 in past week), Marcellus with 30 (unchanged) and Williston with 27 (unchanged). Louisiana remains No. 3 among states with 48 rigs (up 1 in past week) followed closely by Oklahoma with 46 (up 2 in past week) and North Dakota with 27 (unchanged).
