Pioneer Natural Resources dropped from 27 rigs to 23 in the past week, according to Enverus Aug. 5, but the Irving-based company continues to lead Permian Basin in count of active oil and gas drilling rigs. Other basin leaders include Mewbourne with 14 rigs and Devon Energy with 13. Across the Permian, Baker Hughes said as of Aug. 6 the count was unchanged in the past week with 243 rigs (122 year ago). Two New Mexico counties, Lea (45 rigs) and Eddy (30), lead the Permian Basin followed by Midland (28), Reeves (26), Martin (25), Howard (17), Loving (15) and Upton (15).
Haynesville remains No. 2 among regions with 47 rigs (unchanged in past week) followed by Eagle Ford with 32 (unchanged) and Marcellus with 29 (unchanged). Louisiana remains No. 3 among states with 48 rigs (unchanged) followed by Oklahoma with 31 (up 1) and North Dakota and Pennsylvania with 19 each.
