Newly expanded Port of Corpus Christi, third largest U.S. port in total waterborne tonnage, said last week 2025 is a record year for the ship channel. In the first six months, port customers moved 102.4 million tons of commodities (previous record 99.5 million in 2024), and that included record second quarter of 51.1 million tons and record first quarter of 51.3 tons. Kent Britton, CEO of the port, told San Antonio Express, “We try to figure out how to make the waterway the most efficient water on the Gulf Coast and then put our customers in a position to take advantage of that.”
Port of Corpus Christi is the largest energy exporter in the U.S. and the third largest crude oil exporter in the world. Britton added July 15, “The Corpus Christi ship channel improvement project established this port as the number one port for crude oil exports, and we remain committed to providing our customers access to the infrastructure needed to ensure continued economic growth.”
