U.S. Energy Information Administration said Thursday production from Eddy and Lea counties in southeast New Mexico accounted for 29 percent of crude oil production in Permian Basin in 2023Q1 – averaging 1.7 million barrels per day. Permian, largest oil-producing basin in U.S., spans 66 counties in southeast New Mexico and west Texas.
Permian crude production increased to 5.7 million b/d in March, the most recent month for data. That compares to 5.3 million b/d in 2022 and 4.7 million b/d in 2021. EIA said horizontal wells in Eddy and Lea accounted for 60 percent of total growth in Permian in 2023Q1 compared to 44 percent in 2022Q1.
