Railroad Commission of Texas said Tuesday it is revising its seismicity reduction response plan after a review of data, including injection volumes, following an earthquake of 5.4 magnitude Nov. 16 in Reeves County. The northern Culberson-Reeves seismic response area (SRA) is being expanded north to the New Mexico border and increased to 2,601 square miles from 2,366. The plan sets curtailments on injection volumes of produced water into disposal wells. The commission said operators of deep disposal wells in the SRA agreed to further reduce collective volumes of disposal to 162,000 barrels per day from 298,000 b/d by June 30, 2023. There are 78 active disposal wells in the revised SRA.
That’s NOT a reduction in disposed volume of produced water. The well on what used to be my
property at Verhalen, Tx is still pumping its 20,000
bbl/day limit. No change in many years.
