Solar Energy Industries Association said in its recent annual report that installation of stationary battery storage achieved a record in 2025. Battery energy stationary storage (BESS) surpassed 28 gigawatts of new installations last year – 28 percent higher than in 2024. The report, issued in partnership with Benchmark Mineral Intelligence, said the new battery storage is capable of 57 gigawatt hours in generation capacity.
Darren Van’t Hof, interim president and CEO of the association, said, “This record-breaking year for energy storage is just the beginning of its rise as a cornerstone of America’s energy future… Energy storage lowers consumer costs, makes the grid more reliable and keeps the power on in homes during outages. Deployment is rising fast.”
Iola Hughes, head of research at Benchmark, added, “Storage is playing a pivotal role in meeting peak demand, reducing price volatility and improving overall system resilience… Energy storage will be critical to ensuring the grid can scale reliably and efficiently.”
Major energy storage installations in the past year were made by Duke Energy, Jupiter Power, Plus Power and Energy Vault.
