Reeves County regained sole leadership of the count of active oil and gas drilling rigs in Permian Basin as of Aug. 30, according to Baker Hughes. Two rigs were added in the past week to increase Reeves’ total to 58 to edge Lea, N.M., with 55 (down 1 in last week). Other basin leaders include Midland County with 49 rigs (up 1 in past week), Eddy, N.M., with 48 (unchanged in past week), Martin with 36 (down 1), Loving with 30 (down 4), Howard with 24 (down 2) and Ward with 22 (down 1).
Across the U.S., there were 12 fewer rigs as of Aug. 30 at 904 and 12 fewer oil-directed rigs at 742. Baker Hughes said this time a year ago there were 862 oil-directed rigs. Texas leads producing states with 441 rigs (446 last week, 528 last year) followed by New Mexico with 108 (109 last week, 102 last year), Oklahoma with 80 rigs (82 last week, 139 last year), Louisiana with 60 (61 last week, 55 last year) and North Dakota with 51 (48 last week, 52 last year).
Permian Basin leads regions with 429 rigs (434 last week, 486 last year) followed by Eagle Ford with 67 (67 last week, 78 last year), Marcellus with 52 (53 last week, 53 last year), Haynesville with 49 (50 last week, 49 last year) and Cana Woodford with 45 (45 last week, 67 last year).
