Baker Hughes reported few changes in drilling activity in Permian Basin, Texas and New Mexico last week. As of Feb. 7, there were 303 rigs in Permian Basin (unchanged from previous week, down 10 in past year), 278 in Texas (up 1 in past week, down 23 in past year) and 106 in New Mexico (unchanged in past week, up 5 in past year). Also, Baker Hughes reported 4 additional rigs in U.S. from 582 to 586 (down 37 from 623 year ago).
Eagle Ford added 2 rigs in past week from 46 to 48 to remain No. 2 among regions (down 4 from 52 year ago). Other leaders include 34 in Williston (unchanged in past week, unchanged in past year), 30 in Haynesville (up 2 in past week, down 12 in past year) and 23 in Marcellus (unchanged in past week, down 8 in past year). Oklahoma is No. 3 among states with 43 (down 2 in past week, up 2 in past year) followed by North Dakota with 33 (unchanged in past week, up 1 in past year) and Louisiana with 31 (up 2 in past week, down 14 in past year).
Rig counts in each of the top 10 counties in Permian Basin were unchanged in past week, led by the New Mexico counties of Eddy (53) and Lea (50). Others include Midland with 28, Reeves with 26, Martin with 25 and Loving with 19. Also, there were 14 rigs in Reagan, 13 in Upton, 11 in Ward and 10 in Howard.
