Baker Hughes’ count of active oil and gas drilling rigs is up 10.2 percent this year in Permian Basin to 323 as of April 1. Permian has added 4 rigs in the past week, 99 in the past year and 30 since the end of 2021. Also, rig count is up 19.5 percent this year in Texas (326 week ago, 209 year ago). There are 96 rigs in New Mexico (unchanged in past week, 70 year ago) and 673 in U.S. (670 week ago, 430 year ago). U.S. count is up 14.8 percent this year.
Lea County, N.M., leads Permian with 53 rigs despite a loss of 3 in past week. Eddy, N.M., is up 3 in past week to 39. Other basin leaders are Midland and Martin with 31 each, Reeves with 26 and Loving with 25.
Louisiana remains No. 3 among states with 57 rigs followed by Oklahoma with 49 and North Dakota with 32. Haynesville remains No. 2 among regions with 66 rigs followed by Eagle Ford with 56, Marcellus with 37 and Williston with 33.
