Baker Hughes’ count of oil and gas drilling rigs continued its decline in the weekly report of March 3. Counts for Permian, Texas and U.S. each were down 4 rigs in the past week. Permian reported 349 rigs (353 to start 2023, 310 year ago), Texas had 366 (376 to start 2023, 308 year ago) and U.S. had 749 (779 to start 2023, 650 year ago). Count in New Mexico was unchanged at 106 (102 to start 2023, 99 year ago). Texas’ loss of 4 rigs was the largest among major producing states.
Louisiana was No. 3 among states with 62 rigs (64 last week, 56 year ago) followed by Oklahoma with 61 (62 last week, 49 year ago) and North Dakota with 41 (41 last week). Eagle Ford is No. 2 among regions with 71 rigs (71 last week, 54 year ago) followed by Haynesville with 67 (68 last week, 63 year ago), Williston with 42 (42 last week) and Marcellus with 36 (36 last week).
Lea County, N.M., still is Permian leader with 57 rigs followed by Eddy, N.M., with 47. Both were unchanged in past week. Other leaders include Martin with 38 rigs (down 2 in past week), Reeves with 35 (up 1), Loving with 30 (unchanged), Midland with 24 (unchanged) and Howard with 20 (down 1).
