Declining counts of active oil and gas drilling rigs continue in Permian Basin, Texas and U.S. Baker Hughes said as of June 9 the decline in the U.S. count reached six consecutive weeks. Baker Hughes reported 346 rigs in Permian Basin (348 previous week, 345 year ago), 347 in Texas (353 previous week, 356 year ago) and 695 in U.S. (696 previous week, 733 year ago). New Mexico added a rig last week to reach 108 (103 year ago). The U.S. count includes 556 oil-directed rigs (down from 580 year ago).
Louisiana remains No. 3 among states with 53 rigs (52 previous week, 62 year ago) followed by Oklahoma with 44 (43 previous week, 59 year ago) and North Dakota with 36 (unchanged in past week, 35 year ago). Eagle Ford in south Texas remains No. 2 among regions with 58 rigs (unchanged in past week, 68 year ago) followed by Haynesville in east Texas and Louisiana with 51 (52 previous week, 68 year ago), Marcellus with 39 (unchanged in past week, unchanged from year ago) and Williston with 36 (unchanged in past week, 38 year ago).
Permian leaders remain Eddy (down 1 to 55 rigs) and Lea (up 2 to 52) counties in New Mexico followed by west Texas counties Martin with 42 (up 1 in past week), Reeves with 34 (down 1), Midland with 33 (up 2) and Loving with 25 (down 1). Unchanged from last week are Ward with 18, Reagan with 14 and Andrews with 13.
