Permian Basin and Texas each lost a drilling rig in the past week while U.S. added three. According to Baker Hughes, as of Jan. 21, there were 292 active oil and gas rigs in Permian Basin (down 1 in past week, up 104 in past year), 280 in Texas (down 1 in past week, up 105 in past year), 95 in New Mexico (unchanged in past week, up 30 in past year), and 604 in U.S. (up 3 in past week, up 226 in past year).
Lea (54 rigs) and Eddy (37) counties in New Mexico lead the Permian Basin followed by the Texas counties of Midland (30), Martin (22), Reeves (22) and Howard (21). Border states Louisiana (56) and Oklahoma (50) remain third and fourth among states followed by North Dakota (27) and Pennsylvania (22). Among regions, Haynesville remains No. 2 with 53 rigs followed by Eagle Ford (50), Marcellus (33), Williston (27) and Cana Woodford (26).
