Declining counts of active oil and gas drilling rigs returned to Permian Basin, Texas, New Mexico and U.S. as of Oct. 25, according to Baker Hughes. The Houston-based oilfield services company said there are 417 rigs in Permian (422 previous week, 489 previous year), 418 rigs in Texas (423 previous week, 537 previous year), 110 rigs in New Mexico (111 previous week, 101 previous year) and 830 rigs in U.S. (851 previous week, 1,068 previous year). There are 20.5 percent fewer oil-directed rigs (696) in U.S. than a year ago (875).
Rig counts in other top states include 54 in Louisiana (55 previous week, 61 previous year), also 54 in Oklahoma (60 previous week, 141 previous year) and 52 in North Dakota (54 previous week, 54 previous year). Other top regions include Eagle Ford with 63 rigs (60 previous week, 79 previous year), Williston with 53 (55 previous week, 56 previous year), Haynesville with 52 (52 previous week, 51 previous year) and Marcellus with 42 (44 previous week, 56 previous year).
