July 18, 2019 by Bailey LeRoux

New Mexico remained unchanged with 102 active oil and gas drilling rigs (99 a year ago), but the counts from Baker Hughes as of July 12 declined for the past week in Permian Basin, Texas and U.S. There are 437 rigs in Permian Basin (443 a week ago, 476 a year ago), 456 rigs in Texas (463 a week ago, 528 a year ago) and 958 rigs in U.S. (963 a week ago, 1,054 a year ago). Texas again had the largest weekly decline among states.

Reeves County, most active in Permian Basin, added a rig for a new total of 64. There are 55 rigs in Eddy, N.M. (up 1 in past week), 44 rigs in Lea, N.M. (down 1), 42 in Midland (unchanged), 36 in Martin (up 1), 30 in Loving (down 1), 27 in Howard (down 2), 21 in Pecos (down 1) and 20 in Ward (unchanged).

Third among states in rig count is Oklahoma with 98 (97 last week, 141 last year) followed by Louisiana with 69 (68 last week, 58 last year) and North Dakota with 55 (55 last week, 57 last year). Second among regions despite a 5-rig drop is Eagle Ford with 66 rigs (71 a week ago, 81 a year ago) followed by Marcellus with 59 (59 last week, 53 last year), Williston with 55 (55 last week, 57 last year) and Haynesville with 52 (51 last week, 49 last year).
